Tomorrow's Election
Dear HUSD Community,
Election Day is tomorrow. If you have not already done so, I strongly encourage you to exercise your right to vote. Particularly, whether as parents, educators and/or community members, it is important that we model civic participation for our students.
This election cycle has again fueled deep passions on all sides of the political spectrum. It can be a time of excitement when we embrace our right to vote. However, the contentious overtones and rhetoric often exasperate and deepen divisions within our community. We have the opportunity to act as voices for the upliftment and unity of our entire community. This begins with demonstrating to young people and others how we can stand and advocate for our respective beliefs in ways that do not vilify or personally disparage others.
Whatever the outcome of this year’s elections, post-election disruptions may ensue. We live in a unique moment in which we are vociferously debating democratic ideals and values.
A key part of the HUSD mission is to build and nurture a culture that develops a deeper understanding of each unique person, while recognizing and valuing diversity and individual differences. In the days and weeks to come, I ask the members of this wonderful community to come together, be kind to one another, and acknowledge that our peers may be experiencing underlying levels of stress, anger and anxiety.
As always, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Jason Reimann
Superintendent
