Superintendent Update October 28, 2024

Dear Hayward Unified School District Families,

We are well into the 2024-25 school year, and I’d like to start communicating directly with our wonderful HUSD community about the important and exciting things happening in our district. This is the first of what I intend to be regular messages from me.

Earlier this week, we announced a new partnership between Cal State University East Bay and HUSD. Beginning with the graduating class of 2025, CSUEB will guarantee admission to ALL HUSD graduates who have at least a 2.5 GPA and meet the CSU’s minimum entrance requirements. The university’s new guaranteed automatic admission is a great step forward and deepens the Education City concept that the City of Hayward, CSUEB, Chabot College and HUSD have been working together on. Already, 402 of our seniors have received letters from CSUEB offering admission.

I would also like to congratulate the Brenkwitz Alternative High School debate class and team on participating in its first competition last weekend October 19. The debate team did a great deal of research on technology, artificial intelligence and the rules governing competitive debate. 

Finally, I would like to extend my appreciation to the parents, community members and staff members who participated in the series of town hall meetings that I held throughout the district at Mt. Eden High School on October 14, Bret Harte Middle School on October 15, and Southgate Elementary on October 22. Our team is already working to respond to your support for our schools and feedback on how we can continue to improve the experience for ALL Hayward students and families. We will be continuing our town hall series through the months of November and December with a focus on sharing more about HUSD priorities and our budget outlook. We look forward to seeing you there!
