Carmen adapts her program design to ensure students are engaged in activities that promote student collaborations and expand their horizons.

Carmen’s understanding of the importance to develop and maintain positive relationship with her school administration, teachers, and parents is evident in the way that her parents acknowledge and recognize her as a vital part of the Hayward community and school leadership.

9. Collaborative Partnerships:

Andrew’s understanding of the importance to develop and maintain positive relationship with his school administration, teachers, and parents is evident in the way he and his staff are acknowledged and recognized as a vital part of the school leadership and team.

1. Safe and Supportive Environment:

The YEP room at Chavez is a great example of a youth space that is designed to make sure that students feel invited, welcomed, and nurtured when they walk in.  The room reflects a calming and friendly atmosphere.

1. Safe and supportive environment: 

Ray strives to continue to uplift his students and his staff through his kind and nurturing manner. He has established a Mindful Space, intended to help students understand their emotions in healthy ways, and keep stress and anxiety levels down.

10. Continuous quality improvement: 

Ray has introduced the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process to the Strobridge Elementary staff by using the Quality Standards as part of their team meetings to assess and provide feedback around the improvement areas that exist in the program.  

 

 

The “I Make a Difference” Award aims to recognize exemplary work towards creating and providing quality experiences for students in YEP programs. It is grounded in the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning Programs established by the California Department of Education.

Each month, from October to May, YEP Management will select a Site Lead, Program Leader, or a site team for the “I Make a Difference Award for demonstrating exemplary practices in Expanded Learning Program Quality Standards.
