Posted 1/11/21

The Hayward Unified School District’s Board of Education will be accepting  applications to fill a vacancy on the board that was created when Dr. Luis Reynoso was elected to an open Chabot-Las Positas Community College District seat in the November 2020 election. We appreciate Dr. Reynoso for his service to the Hayward community in his capacity as trustee for the last 12 years and wish him well as he continues his service in support of our local community college district.

The Board of Education will undergo the appointment process to appoint a new board member. The appointee will hold office until the next regularly scheduled Statewide General Election for governing board members, which will take place on November 8, 2022, or if and until a special election is required by a petition of district voters.

To be eligible to serve on the board, a person must be (as per Education Code 35107):

  • 18 years of age or older

  •  A resident of the school district

  •  A registered voter

Any person who has been convicted of a felony involving the giving, accepting, or offering of a  bribe, embezzlement or theft of public funds, extortion, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any  such crime, under California law or the law of another state, the United States, or another  country, is not eligible to be a board member except when he/she has been granted a pardon in  accordance with law. Additionally, current employees of the Hayward Unified School District are not eligible to serve on the school board.

Eligibility is determined regardless of race, color, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group  identification, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual  orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, or genetic information, the perception of one  or more of such characteristics, or association with a person or group with one or more of these  actual or perceived characteristics.
