All students, whether currently enrolled or on the waitlist, must re-enroll each school year.

Yes, if your student transfers to a school within the Hayward Unified School District, you must enroll in that school's YEP program.  

Please note that your child (student) may not be guaranteed a spot at the transferred school site.

Yes, every student must enroll in YEP every year.  Whether a student has been enrolled, is on the waitlist or has been dropped from the program for any school year, they will need to enroll for the upcoming school year.

All student applications for YEP are initially placed on a waitlist to determine enrollment based on the following priorities:

• Students who are unhoused
• Students who are foster care
• Students eligible for free or reduced meals
• All other student

We are currently working through our waitlist for the 2026–2027 school year. Families at traditional-calendar elementary schools will be notified of their child's enrollment status via email on or before July 15, 2026. Families attending year-round elementary schools have already received notification regarding enrollment status.

Once the school year begins, the YEP Site Leads will contact parents/guardians directly when space becomes available.  All families will have a limited timeframe for contacting the Site Lead to confirm acceptance of enrollment.

When you are logged into the primary YEP account portal, you may see the student’s “schedule.” This schedule does not mean the student is actually enrolled in the program; it just shows you what the student is signed up for. All students are initially placed on a waitlist.

Enrollment in YEP is confirmed once the YEP Site Lead notifies you of available space and the program agreements are signed.

Students can only attend the YEP program at the school site the student attends during the school day.

Grant requirements state that all students in our program must attend YEP Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 6 p.m. If your child needs to be picked up early, please refer to our early release policy in the YEP Parent Manual and speak to your YEP Site Lead.

Program Fee Information:

• The elementary afterschool PM program (TK - 6th grade) fee is $1,250 for the school year per student.
• Siblings are eligible for a 20% discount per student.
• Payments can be divided into 10 monthly payments to ease financial planning.
• YEP offers an afterschool sliding fee scale. For more information, please contact the YEP office.
• YEP morning AM programs at elementary  and middle are free.  Please see YEP Enrollment website for locations. 
• All middle and high school afterschool programs are free.
• YEP blends funding, including parent fees and Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P). YEP must be offered free of charge to all students in grades TK-6th who are identified in one or more of the following categories:
  o   Foster Youth
  o   Unhoused
  o   Quaified for free and reduced-price meals

Enrollment fee discounts and fee waivers are available for eligible students.

YEP programs are held at all Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) elementary, middle and high school sites.

The YEP morning AM program operates for 1.5 hours each regular school day, Monday through Friday, before the first school bell.

The YEP afterschool PM program commences immediately upon the conclusion of the regular school day and continues until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

YEP aligns with the Hayward Unified School District's Year-Round and Traditional student calendars.

YEP students must be signed out daily by their parent/guardian or by an 18-year-old adult, who are listed on the student's emergency card, by 6:00 p.m. or a late fee will apply.

Parents/guardians can fill out a walk-home form for students who are 10 years of age or older, who can then self-sign out and walk-home. Once the student is signed out, the student may not return to program for that day.

YEP programs provide opportunities for students to participate in physical activities, educational and literacy programs, homework time, and educational enrichment activities that may include, but are not limited to, fine arts, science, physical fitness, service learning, nutrition, music, social-emotional learning, and youth development.

The YEP program maintains a student-to-staff ratio (program-wide) of no more than 10-to-1 for TK/kindergarten and no more than 20-to-1 for 1st grade to 8th grade.

YEP collaborates with HUSD Food Services to provide a nutritious breakfast for students enrolled in the YEP morning AM program and a nutritious meal for students enrolled in the YEP afterschool PM program. Students are welcome to bring healthy snacks to the program.
