Yes, every student must register for YEP every year.  Whether a student has been enrolled, on the waitlist or has been dropped from the program for a particular school year, they will need to register for the upcoming school year.

Yes, if your student transfers schools within Hayward Unified School District, you must register for that school's YEP program.  Please remember that your child (student) may not be guaranteed a spot at the transferred school site.

All student applications for YEP are initially placed in waitlist status in order to determine enrollment by state mandated priorities.  Families will be notified by email when their students are accepted into classes.

Once programs begin, the YEP site leads will contact parents/guardians once space becomes available.  The Site Lead will attempt to contact the family multiple times, and all families will have a timeframe for contacting the Site Lead to confirm.  We aim to provide access to as many students as possible within the required student-to-staff ratios. 
 
Following the state mandate, the families of students who qualify for ELO-P will be given priority to enroll first. Then, if capacity allows, enrollment will be opened up in the following priority order:

● Students who are unhoused or in foster care
● Students eligible for free or reduced meals
● English Language Learners (ELL)
● All other students

Students can only attend the program at their enrolled school site.

Parents/guardians must attend a mandatory orientation at their student's school site.

Parents/guardians can meet our staff during orientation and learn about the program, including expectations.

Per our grant requirements, we require all students in our program to attend YEP Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 6 p.m. If your child needs to be picked up early, please refer to the YEP Parent Manual and contact your YEP site leader for information on the early release policy.

Program Fee Information

• The Elementary program fee is $1250 for the year per student.
  o   Siblings discount available for 20% discount
  o   Payments can be divided into 10 monthly payments to ease financial planning
• The Middle and High school programs are FREE.
• YEP blends funding including parent fees and Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P). YEP must be offered free of charge to all students in grades TK-6th who are identified in one or more of the following categories:
  o   Foster Youth
  o   Unhoused
  o   Low-Income (qualify for free and reduced-price meals)

Enrollment fee discounts and fee waivers are available for eligible students.

YEP programs are held at all Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) elementary, middle and high school sites.

The YEP AM (morning program) operates for one and one-half hours each regular school day, Monday through Friday, before the first school bell.

The YEP after-school program commences immediately upon the conclusion of the regular school day and continues until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

YEP aligns with the Hayward Unified School District's Traditional and Year-Round student calendars.

YEP students must be signed out daily by their parent/guardian or an 18-year-old adult, who are listed on the student's emergency card, by 6:00 p.m. or a late fee will occur. Parents/guardians can fill out a walk-home form for students who are 10 years of age or older, who can then self-sign out and walk-home. Once the student is signed out, the student may not return to program for that day.

The YEP programs provide opportunities for students to participate in physical activities, educational and literacy programs, homework time, and educational enrichment activities that may include, but is not limited to, fine arts, science, physical fitness, service learning, nutrition, music, social-emotional learning, and youth development.

The YEP program maintains a student-to-staff ratio (program-wide) of no more than 20 to 1 for 1st grade to 8th grade and for TK/kindergarten of no more than 10 to 1.

YEP collaborates with HUSD Food Services to provide a nutritious breakfast meal for students enrolled in the YEP AM (morning) program and a nutritious meal for students enrolled in the YEP PM (after-school) program. Students are welcome to bring healthy snacks to the program.

YEP offers programs during summer break (for traditional and year-round students) and fall break (for year-round students only).
