Youth Professional’s Internship Program

YEP Youth Professionals Program

Looking for a way to earn money, gain real-world job experience, build your leadership skills, and make a difference in your community? The YEP Youth Professionals Program offers an exciting opportunity for 10th -12th grade students to do all of that—and more!

Through this paid internship program, students are placed at one of 27 Hayward Unified School District school sites, where they work alongside YEP staff to support after-school programs and serve as positive role models for younger students. Interns gain valuable hands-on experience while developing the professional skills employers and colleges are looking for.

In addition to their internship, students participate in monthly leadership development meetings that focus on important life and career skills, including:

  • Job Readiness and Professionalism
  • Leadership Development
  • Financial Literacy and Money Management
  • Career Exploration
  • Communication and Teamwork
  • Building a Positive Growth Mindset

Youth Professionals is more than just an internship—it can be the first step toward future employment. Students who turn 18 and graduate from high school may apply to become a YEP Program Leader, with a current starting pay of $28.98 per hour. This can be a great opportunity for rising college students to stay local (ex. Chabot, Cal State East Bay, Etc.), work part-time, and earn money while focusing on their studies. Did you know that 10% of YEP’s workforce were previous Youth Professionals?

What Will Students Do?

As a Youth Professional, students will:

  • Assist with tutoring and homework support
  • Help lead fun and engaging clubs and activities
  • Support sports, games, and recreation programs
  • Assist with special events and field trips
  • Serve as positive role models and mentors
  • Develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Gain meaningful work experience in a supportive environment
