Youth Professional’s Internship Program
YEP’s Youth Professional’s Program focuses on providing 11th and 12th graders paid work internships at all 28 school sites supporting afterschool programming in the Hayward Unified School District. Interns also receive Leadership Development training through mandatory monthly meetings focusing on building their work skills, setting a positive growth mindset, and other essential life skills (ex. Job Readiness, Financial Management, and Career Exploration). Our Youth Professionals Program is also a pathway to employment in YEP. Interns that turn 18 years of age and graduate from High School can actively seek employment as a Program Leader with a current starting pay of $28.98.
During the regular school year interns will assist YEP Site Leaders and their teams in executing day-to-day operations such as providing tutoring and homework assistance, implementing various interactive and creative clubs, help manage student behaviors, student supervision, indoor/outdoor activities, supporting special events, and much more.
Registration for our Youth Professionals Program begins the last week of August and ends around mid-September. Students interested in the program can register by scanning the QR code on our program flier (see the deck below) or by clicking the link HERE. Our team will then reach out to see if your student qualifies for the program. If your student responds in a timely manner and follows the instructions given, they will be scheduled for a group interview. Upon successful completion, your student would be selected to earn an internship spot at one of our 28 participating school sites.
Here’s how students can qualify for an internship:
- Must be an HUSD Student in the 11th or 12th grade
- Obtain a Work Permit (Maintaining at least a 2.0)
- Have a California ID and Social Security Card (or valid Work Visa)
- Provide a School Reference (Letter of Support)
