2nd Chance @ College is a partnership program with Chabot College that began in 2014 and is meant to encourage and support our HUSD community to go back to college to pursue their educational goals. Throughout the last five years, 2nd Chance @ College has proudly been able to serve 12 to 20 parents per semester with an average passing rate of 98%.
Parent University's 2nd Chance @ College program aims to provide HUSD families and employees with an opportunity to return to college. The program includes FREE textbook, course, childcare, and one-to-one mentoring support. Course is taught in English only.
ECD 56 - Child Growth and Development (3.00 - Units)
Examines the progression of development in the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains and identifies developmental milestones for children both typical and atypical from conception through adolescence. Emphasis on interactions between biological processes and environmental factors. Students will observe children, evaluate individual differences, and analyze characteristics of development at various stages according to developmental theories. This course meets CSU/UC transfer requirements.
Dates: September 19-December 12, 2024
Day: Thursdays
Time: 5:30-7:00PM with additional assignments that will need to be completed independently online.
Location: Parent Resource Center Hub (24823 Soto Road), Room 10

What is the level of commitment required for the course?
You will have to 11 in person classes from September 19 through December 12th. The class meets every Thursday from 5:30-7:00PM at the Parent Resource Center Hub. The course will also require some assignments that will need to be completed independently online.
In what language is the course taught?
The course is taught in English only. Translation is not provided.
How will I know if I have been accepted into the program?
Everyone who submits this form will receive a follow up email regarding the status of their application. For those who do get accepted, you will need to complete the Chabot College Application, and we will provide support as needed with this step.
Are there any costs to the program?
No, the program is entirely FREE to all participants. We ask for your commitment to the duration of the course.
