About us
Welcome! The Newcomer Services Team supports newly arrived students and families who have arrived to the U.S. in the last 6 years. We serve asylees, refugees, children of migrant families and unaccompanied immigrant minors. Our program is dedicated to providing Hayward Unified School District Newcomer students and families with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
Available Support and resources
○ Support from HUSD’s Coordination of Services Team (COST) at school sites
○ Parent Portal Support
○ Parent/Caregiver Educational Workshops
○ Engage parents/caregivers in District and community activities and resources
○ Parent/Caregiver One-on-One support
○ Parent/Caregiver referrals and linkage to services
○ Supports Refugee and Asylee newcomer populations
○ Referrals for Academic Support from World House program at Tennyson High School and Cesar Chavez Middle School
○ Support in enrolling in After-school Activities through the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP)
○ Soccer Without Borders at Tennyson High School
○ Youth Leadership and Mentorship Opportunities
○ Alameda County Center for Healthy Schools and Communities
○ 2-11 Bay Area Information and Referral Services
○ Faith-Based Organizations in Hayward and Alameda County
Please note: The support social event and newcomer services are offered to HUSD newcomer students and families ONLY.
