Student Transfers
The Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) offers families choices to select the school that is right for their student. HUSD provides a wide variety of language, art, career, and college programs to meet the needs and interests of our students. Please see below to learn more about the different school transfer processes available and the various guidelines associated with each.

Open Enrollment (School Choice) for 23-24 CLOSED
The annual parent choice transfer option to request a school projected to have some space available for The upcoming school year. Applications accepted January 10 and February 8.
Special Circumstance/ Program Transfers
Allows families to apply for transfer to a different school within HUSD for a specific reason including a special circumstance, due to a hardship or a participate in a eligible unique educational program.
23-24 Interdistrict Transfers Begin March 1, 2023
Interdistrict transfer permits are used to transfer from one school district to another school district. HUSD welcomes students from other districts to participate in our exciting programs.
2022-23 Transfer Requests (CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR only)
Parents may request a transfer during a school year if a special circumstance exists that might be harmful, or dangerous to the student or cause serious hardship to the family if the student attends their resident school. Additionally, families may request a transfer to access a special program that is not available at their resident school. All transfers are subject to available space at the desired school. Some examples of special programs include TK and language programs.
