The Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) offers families choices to select the school that is right for their student. HUSD provides a wide variety of language, art, career, and college programs to meet the needs and interests of our students. Please see below to learn more about the different school transfer processes available and the various guidelines associated with each.

26-27 Open Enrollment (School Choice)
January 12,2026 to February 6, 2026
Open Enrollment (school choice) is a transfer application period for the families in the Hayward Unified School District who wish for their child to attend a different school within the district. Note: not all schools participate in Open Enrollment transfers.
Special Circumstance/ Program Transfers
Allows families to apply for transfer to a different school within HUSD for a specific reason including a special circumstance, due to a hardship or a participate in a eligible unique educational program.
2025-2026 School Year
Interdistrict Transfers
Interdistrict transfer permits are used to transfer from one school district to another school district.
HUSD welcomes students from other districts to participate in our exciting programs.
We begin to accept Interdistrict transfer applications for the upcoming school year on March 1st of every year.
