Annual ELPAC Summative Testing Window 2/1-5/31

The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) annual summative testing window will be open from February 1 through May 31. This test is required to be given each year to multilingual learners who have not yet been Redesignated Fluent English Proficient (RFEP). The ELPAC measures students' growth in the four domains of language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

HUSD Professional Learning
Multilingual Learner Map

Our multilingual learners speak languages from across the globe. While a majority of our multilingual learners speak Spanish, our diverse population includes speakers of forty-plus languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese. We are proud to serve all of these students and their families, treating their home languages and cultural background as critical assets that they bring to our schools, and celebrating the differences they bring.

Guided by the Master Plan for Multilingual Learners and committed to student, teacher and parent success, we support a powerful instructional program for multilingual learners in grades TK-12.

The Department of Multilingual Learners provides on-going support to our district's programs designed for students whose primary language is not English. Our main charge is to coordinate services, create resources, and provide professional learning and support to district staff tasked with instructing our multilingual learners and providing resources and professional development for their families.

Our goal is for our students to graduate from Hayward Unified School District with the academic skills and foundational experiences necessary to be in a position to continue formal post-secondary education or to succeed in a career of their choosing. We believe this is a collaborative effort that involves all educational partners in the lives of our PK-12 students: teachers, support staff, site administrators, central office staff, families and community members.
