Transportation

The Transportation Department is part of the Business Services Division and includes School Bus Drivers, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, and School Crossing Guards.  With the collective support of this staff, hundreds of students are transported to schools on a daily basis. The mission is to support the educational process by providing safe, on-time, and efficient transportation for our students to and from school. 

Home-to-school bus transportation is provided to eligible Elementary students within their attendance areas who live beyond the one-and-a-half (1.5) mile walking distance from their home to their resident school. It is also provided to enrolled students of the World House and Eden ROP programs. Parents who wish to enroll their children in a school outside of their attendance area must provide their own transportation. The district does not provide transportation for General Education students in Middle or High Schools.

The department also has an established school crossing guard program to protect the health and safety of students.  School crossing guard placement is dependent on items such as the age of students, the width of the street and number of lanes of traffic students must cross, sight distance at the crossing, safe gaps in traffic, presence of traffic control devices, and speed/volume of traffic. The HUSD Transportation Department supports and encourages students who walk or bike to school to increase their daily physical activity, as this may improve their overall health and academic achievement.

The capacity is based on elementary-aged students three to seat.  Please limit chaperones on the buses when planning trips as it takes away from the student count.
