Irma Gatchalian

Irma Gatchalian

Irma has been a valued member of the Hayward Unified School District since 2007, when she began her career with the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP). In 2011, she transitioned to the Assessment, Research, and Evaluation Department as an Assessment Technician, where she supported the district's assessment system. She continued her professional journey in 2018 by joining the Educational Information Technology (EIT) Department as a Database Specialist. In 2022, Irma advanced into her current role as a Systems Analyst, where she continues to leverage her technical expertise to support the district's state reporting. Her career path reflects her dedication, adaptability, and commitment to serving the HUSD community. 

 

Areas of Learning
  1. Self-Advocating Individual / Empowered Learner

Self-advocating students will feel empowered to voice their productive struggle effectively. They will identify digital platforms that enable them to take risks, celebrate their successes, and increase their level of learning.
  1. Empathetic Global Citizen / Digital Citizen

Digital Citizens become responsible and ethical innovators and critical thinkers when using digital platforms for learning and/or socializing. They will create and manage a digital identity that is culturally responsive and maintains the safety and trust of fellow  global citizens
  1. Creative / Knowledge Constructor

Students navigate a variety of digital resources with a critical lens for bias, accuracy, and credibility, then assimilate the new information to draw connections to prior knowledge, and form new ideas and understandings about academic content and their world.

Students generate ideas and stamina to solve open-ended problems. They test their ideas and reflect on the effectiveness of the solutions. They continuously improve and refine their ideas. They build stamina to persevere in solving problems.

Students who are critical thinkers solve problems by 

  • Identifying problems and their component parts 
  • Applying a variety of available tools, including determining if and when technological tools are appropriate
  • Engaging in data collection, analysis, and representation using technology to increase efficiency
  • Testing potential solutions and evaluate outcomes, iterating the process through the use of machine efficiencies (algorithms)
  • Considering the impacts of computing on society

Effective Communicator - Students develop facility with a variety of platforms, tools, styles, formats, and digital media tools to confidently communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes and audiences that are appropriate to their goals in a manner that allows them to transfer skills to new technology as it develops over time.
  1. Collaborative Leader / Global Collaborator

Collaborative Leader - Students will use digital tools to explore different perspectives from their own in order to more fully understand the challenges and situations experienced by people around the world. They will work effectively in diverse teams, and contribute respectfully and democratically to their team.
