Bay Area Award-winning Art Instructor and Artist Andrew Kong Knight to be honored with “Educator Award” at the 15th Annual History Awards Ceremony by Hayward Area Historical Society this Friday evening September 18th 2015.

The award coincides with Knight’s 20th year of teaching art in the San Francisco Bay Area. Knight has taught art at California State University East Bay in Hayward, Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Contra Costa College in San Pablo and for the last 20 years at Hayward High School.

Why? 
 

Knight's "Greatest Art Class in the Universe" (GACU) have consistently won both local and national art awards over the last 20 years such as: 

 

Scholastic Magazine National Art & Essay “Gold Key Award”, The Congressional High School Art Competition“Best of Category”, California Watercolor Association“Best of Show”, Alameda County Fair “Best of Class” and “Judge’s Favorite”, San Leandro Art Festival “Best of Category”, and Flowers Foundation Annual AIDS Awareness Contest “First Place” and “Founders Choice.”

 

Knight has also garnered the following teaching awards over the last 20 years: 

 

Members Resolution Commendation #958 from Mary Hayashi 18th District for serving as an educator and muralist in the City of Hayward, 2010. “Art Teacher Recognition” Art of Harmony Art Competition by theCoca-Cola Company in 2006 and 2007. “Best Communication Award” from the California Teacher's Association in 2007. “Finalist” in Bravo’s National Arts Education Awards Competition in 2000. “Special Recognition Certificate of Commendation” in 1998 fromUS Department of Education for Participation in Murals Reflecting Prevention Program. “Leadership Scholarship Teaching Award” from National University in 1996.

East Bay residents may recognize Knight’s monumental, downtown Hayward murals including the “Hayward Gateway” mural (which is Hayward’s largest mural) and three “Hayward Meets Hollywood” murals he created surrounding the main parking structure in the heart of the downtown area of Hayward.
