Why Hayward
Welcome to the Hayward Unified School District.
Our schools offer the most robust education experience of any Hayward schools, from athletics to performing arts, college prep and career pathways, student clubs, afterschool programs, and support for the whole child.
HUSD students enter the world prepared for anything.
Preparation
We prepare students for college, career, and beyond. A rigorous and engaging environment challenges kids to discover their true potential. We’re paving the way to success with resources like our Career Pathways, college readiness programs, and a robust STEAM curriculum created jointly with Cal State East Bay.
Community
Strong communities begin with strong schools. Our community schools approach opens the doors to families. Our schools are learning hubs for families and communities working together so kids come to school ready to learn, and learn a lot.
Opportunity
Welcome to world-class programming. We’ve invested in programs in the arts and sciences to stimulate deeper learning and ignite individual passions because these are not electives—they are essential.
Diversity
We make access and opportunity for all students a district priority. The world is a diverse place—so are we. When you have a chance to learn next to others who have different perspectives, you learn something new about yourself and are better equipped to take on the world.

Featured Programs
Dual Language Immersion
Dual Language Immersion programs bring together native English speakers and native speakers of another language in a unique opportunity for both groups to learn a second language.
Students are taught in English for 50% of the day and in Spanish or Mandarin for the other 50% of the day. The Mandarin program is available at Stonebrae Elementary, and Spanish is at Burbank and Schafer Park elementaries.
Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
HUSD has a strong commitment to visual and performing arts. We offer a rigorous, standards-based arts education program for every child in the district. The district has fostered award-winning music programs at the secondary level. The students' hard work culminates every year with the All District Music Festival, which brings together students from across the district.
College and Career Readiness
Our goal is for all HUSD students to leave prepared for college or a career. Learn more about the various ways we support our students and graduates
Youth Enrichment Program
Our YEP program offers Expanded Learning Opportunities to students before and after school as well as during the summer!
YEP serves students in grades TK-12 at 27 schools in the district. We offer a range of educational, enrichment, and recreational programs at each school and level.
YEP gives students opportunities for homework/academic support and to expand their learning through fun recreational, athletic, and educational activities. Students grow socially, emotionally and physically, build community and belonging, develop confidence and resilience, and have fun in a safe supportive environment.
