What Makes HUSD Great
There are a lot of amazing things taking place in Hayward, but sometimes they get overlooked. That’s why we created the Why Hayward web page to give current and prospective families a peek into the world of HUSD. The page features videos of some of our schools, standout teachers, and programs that support student success. Check back often for updates and share the link with anyone considering HUSD for their child. #MadeinHayward

Hayward Students 13 to 20 Years Old Invited to Apply to Serve on the Hayward Youth Commission
The City of Hayward is now accepting applications from students interested in serving on the Hayward Youth Commission.
The City seeks students eager to represent the interests, needs and concerns of young people in Hayward and provide input to elected officials of the City of Hayward, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District and the Hayward Unified School District about issues that affect youth.
Youth Commissioner responsibilities include attending meetings — which are held at the Hayward City Hall Council Chambers on the second Monday of each month from September to June, except holidays — and working on special projects that address current youth issues. To qualify, students must be between 13 and 20 years old and live in the City of Hayward or within the boundaries of the Hayward Unified School District.
All applicants under 18 years of age must obtain consent from a parent/legal guardian to participate in this Commission by completing the Parent Agreement and Contact Information form. Interested students can apply online by visiting the City’s website here or by calling (510) 583-4400 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, May 9, 2025. Applicants will be notified by email when interview times are confirmed. Interviews are one day only and are scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2025.
