HUSD Receives National Recognition for Music Education for Fifth Consecutive Year
The Hayward Unified School District has again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. This is the fifth consecutive year that HUSD has earned the award. Read more.
Early Learning Info Session
Join us for an Early Learning Info Session on Wednesday April 17 at the Hayward Public Library from 5:00-6:30pm, hosted by 4Cs of Alameda County. This is a targeted event for Downtown Hayward Promise Neighborhood (DHPN) families to learn about early care options that are free of cost or low cost for children ages 3 and 4 years old.

Upcoming April HUSD AB/AR in the Community Resource Summit at Chabot College
Dr. Cofield, the Hayward Equity and Antiracism AOSA in collaboration with the Chabot College Umoja, Puente, and Student Equity Office, is hosting an Equity and Antiracism in Education Resource Summit at the Chabot Event Center on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 2pm. The Summit goal is to share related local resources and build a more equitable and antiracist Hayward educational community amongst those advocating for it and those interested to learn more. This event is free and open to the whole community - there will be resources and workshops for local students, educators, and families.

 We're thrilled to announce Lorin Eden's Chris Scharfenkamp is an NBC Sports Bay Area All-Star Teacher finalist! Application Period Open for Hayward Youth Commission
 The City of Hayward is seeking students eager to represent the interests, needs and concerns of young people in Hayward and provide input to elected officials of the City of Hayward, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, and Hayward Unified School District.
If this sounds like something of interest to you, consider applying to join the Hayward Youth Commission. Youth Commissioner responsibilities include attending meetings, which are held at City Hall, Council Chambers, the second Monday of each month from September to June, except holidays, and working on special projects that address youth issues.

Brenkwitz High School Blood Drive - Appointment Link
Drive Date: Wednesday, April 17, 2024
Location: Bloodmobile in the parking lot
Drive Hours: 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Vitalant Staff on Site: 12:15 pm – 6:30 pm Approximately, depending on traffic.
Goal: 24 Appointments, 18 Donors and 20 lifesaving units of blood!
Things to Know
- All Donors should review Blood Donor Qualifications prior to making an appointment.
- Donors should review height/weight requirements prior to scheduling an appointment.
- Donors are encouraged to make an appointment. Donors should arrive well-nourished and hydrated.
- Donors need identification with full first and last name, and either a photo or DOB
- The donation process takes approximately one hour (add an additional 20 minutes for a Power Red donation)
- Power Red Donation – Power up your donation with an automated double red cell donation
- Fast Track – Donors can complete the health questionnaire online prior to arriving to the drive – visit vitalant.org and click the ‘Health History Questionnaire’ link. The questionnaire must be completed the same day as the donation.
African American Student Achievement Initiative (AASAI)
AASAI’s District Parent Leadership Team (DPLT) meeting will be held this Thursday, April, 18 from 6:00-8:00PM at the Parent Resource Center (The Hub) on Soto Rd. Topics will include “Supporting Your Child to Become a Better Reader” led by Dr. Shea Gregory, and “Promised Math,” led by Juni Kim from Hayward Promise Neighborhood (HPN.)
Please come out and learn more about how you can support your child in reading and math. Dinner and childcare will be provided

NAACP Carolee Perrich Scholarship Application
The NAACP is offering a wonderful opportunity for our students. This scholarship is in honor of one of our very own Hayward educators who was passionate about helping our youth. The application can be found here. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2024.
McKinney-Vento (MKV-Unhoused) Reclassification Process
Effective June 9, 2024 all McKinney-Vento (MKV) families (families that do not have fixed, regular or adequate housing) will have to reclassify their McKinney-Vento status for the 24-25 school year. MKV status will be dropped for families that are currently classified as MKV.
This is a process that the majority of the other school districts follow on a yearly basis. Hayward Unified School District has not practiced this in the past. HUSD was asked by Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) to go through this process to get a more accurate picture of MKV families in the District.
Instructions on making an appointment with an Outreach Worker for reclassification will be shared in an upcoming message. Existing and new families will be welcomed to apply.
Beginning on June 17, 2024 the Outreach Workers will start making appointments with families that need to reclassify. They will be working on reclassifying families over the summer and during the next school year.

HUSD recibe el reconocimiento nacional a la educación musical por quinto año consecutivo
El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Hayward ha sido galardonado de nuevo con la designación de Mejores Comunidades para la Educación Musical de la Fundación NAMM por su destacado compromiso con la educación musical. En su 25º año, la designación de Mejores Comunidades para la Educación Musical se otorga a los distritos que demuestran un logro sobresaliente al proporcionar acceso y educación musical a todos los estudiantes. Este es el quinto año consecutivo que HUSD ha ganado el premio.

Sesión Informativa sobre Aprendizaje Temprano

Próximo abril HUSD AB / AR en la Cumbre de Recursos de la Comunidad en Chabot College
La Dra. Cofield, la AOSA de Equidad y Antirracismo de Hayward en colaboración con la Umoja de Chabot College, Puente, y la Oficina de Equidad Estudiantil, está organizando una Cumbre de Recursos de Equidad y Antirracismo en la Educación en el Centro de Eventos Chabot el sábado 27 de abril de 9am a 2pm. La meta de la Cumbre es compartir recursos locales relacionados y construir una comunidad educativa de Hayward más equitativa y antirracista entre los que abogan por ello y los interesados en aprender más. Este evento es gratuito y abierto a toda la comunidad - habrá recursos y talleres para estudiantes locales, educadores y familias.

Período de solicitud abierto para la Comisión Juvenil de Hayward

- Los donantes necesitan una identificación con nombre y apellidos completos, y una foto o la fecha de nacimiento.
- El proceso de donación dura aproximadamente una hora (añada 20 minutos más para una donación Power Red).
- Power Red Donation – Potencie su donación con una doble donación automatizada de glóbulos rojos

Solicitud de beca Carolee Perrich de la NAACP
La NAACP está ofreciendo una maravillosa oportunidad para nuestros estudiantes. Esta beca es en honor de uno de nuestros propios educadores Hayward que era un apasionado de ayudar a nuestros jóvenes. La aplicación puede ser hallada aquí. La fecha límite para presentar solicitudes es el 30 de abril de 2024.
Proceso de reclasificación McKinney-Vento (MKV-Unhoused)
A partir del 9 de junio de 2024 todas las familias McKinney-Vento (MKV) (familias que no tienen vivienda fija, regular o adecuada) tendrán que reclasificar su estatus McKinney-Vento para el año escolar 24-25. El estatus MKV será eliminado para las familias que actualmente están clasificadas como MKV.
Este es un proceso que la mayoría de los otros distritos escolares siguen sobre una base anual. Hayward Unified School District no ha practicado esto en el pasado. HUSD fue pedido por la Oficina de Educación del Condado de Alameda (ACOE) para pasar por este proceso para obtener una imagen más precisa de las familias MKV en el Distrito.
Las instrucciones para hacer una cita con un trabajador de alcance para la reclasificación se compartirán en un próximo mensaje. Las familias existentes y nuevas serán bienvenidas a aplicar.
