YEP Summer Successes
Posted 8/5/20

We are pleased to provide an update on recent programming organized by the Hayward Unified School District’s (HUSD), Youth Enrichment Program (YEP). YEP launched its 5-week, 2020 Summer Learning Challenge Program on June 29, 2020. YEP took this opportunity to reimagine expanded learning by exploring new ways students could learn and engage with their peers during distance learning. Our goal was to reduce “summer learning loss” and engage students in fun and interactive academic enrichment activities. Our goal is to keep students continually involved in learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 220 students in grades 3rd through 8th grade participated in various learning challenges such as Math Facts, Reading, and Geography daily via Google Classroom and Zoom. YEP staff introduced online resources such as Flipgrid, EPIC, and MobyMax. MobyMax is a web-based curriculum tailored to a student’s individual needs in Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies. YEP students participated in over 315.75 hours of MobyMax and read over 1066 hours using EPIC!

YEP students utilized Flipgrid to share what they learned with their YEP Program Leaders and peers during our challenges.  Below are videos to highlight some of the fantastic work of our students.
